2019 Tax Scams

Scams during tax season are not a new subject. Every year, tax scams become more believable and every corporation and individual needs to be aware before they fall into the trap of paying unnecessary fees. Scam mailers can be close to an exact replica of government forms and use verbiage to try to convince the reader that their fines are mandatory. However, upon closer inspection, it is easy to find out which forms are legitimate and what services are not needed.

“Workplace Compliance Services” is a common scam in the state of Georgia during this tax season. At first glance, their 2019 Annual Registration Form looks like a professional required service. The form asks for fees around $125 even though they are not a government agency.

Notice the section that reads: “WORKPLACE COMPLIANCE SERVICES IS NOT A GOVERNMENT AGENCY AND DOES NOT HAVE A CONTRACT WITH ANY GOVERNMENTAL AGENCY TO PROVIDE THIS SERVICE.”

Before Kemp’s election as Georgia’s Governor, he released warnings of the solicitations as Secretary of State which can be viewed here:

Always make sure to ask your CPA if a form is legitimate before you pay and be aware of which scams are common in your area.
